Sometimes life can leave its everlasting mark on our skin, whether it’s in the form of surgical or trauma scars, textured acne scars or stretch marks, they can seem impossible to rid yourself of. That is, until Microneedling.
Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment which delivers up to 1,300 micro-punctures into the skin per second. This results in a breakdown of old, hardened tissue and cells and kicks your body’s natural healing response into overdrive. Microneedling causes an accelerated production of fibroblasts, growth factors, collagen and elastin — in other words, it restores your skin to its glory days.
Surgical and trauma scars
If you’ve undergone a surgical procedure or otherwise injured the tissue, perhaps resulting in stitches, you may be all too familiar with the body’s sometimes slow healing process and the marks that can be left behind.
A surgical scar is a type of injury to the tissue, usually caused by a deep incision that requires modification of all layers. Because surgeons cannot always control every factor that determine the appearance of a scar, sometimes treatment is necessary after the area has properly healed. Given the complexity of tissue makeup in a scar, scar therapy has been historically limited. With microneedling we are able to penetrate difficult scar tissue, dramatically improving appearance, texture, elasticity and size.
Stretch marks
Stretch marks don’t discriminate, and unless you were blessed genetically, no one is safe from them. They can be due to growth spurts, weight or muscle gain, genetic predisposition, and most commonly, pregnancy.
Also known as Striae, stretch marks are tears to the connective tissue of the skin caused by overstretching. When the connective tissue is stretched, the tear results in what is called an epidermal atrophy along the damaged area. This causes the epidermis to become thin and lose its ridges, breaking the elastic fibers and causing the tissue to retract.

FAQ
What is microneedling?
A: Microneedling, sometimes referred to as skin needling or Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive treatment that breaks down scar tissue, strengthens the skin, naturally stimulates collagen and improves the overall texture and tone of the skin.
How many treatments will I need? How often is treatment done?
A: The number of treatments varies based on the condition being addressed. Most patients with acne scarring or general scarring get 6 to 10 treatments, while those looking to minimize surgical or trauma scars may be closer to 12 treatments. The frequency of sessions can also vary but we generally space them about four to six weeks apart.
Is microneedling painful? What can I expect during my treatment?
A: We use a topical anesthetic cream on the area being treated, so you’ll be extremely comfortable throughout the procedure. Some clients describe the feeling as being similar to microdermabrasion with a bit more kick to it.
When you come in for your microneedling treatment, we’ll start with an ultra-relaxing facial cleanse that will calm any nerves you may have. Next, we’ll apply a generous amount of numbing cream to every inch of skin being treated. Once it works its magic and you’re nice and numb, we’ll begin the treatment and do three passes with the Dermapen device. After completing the microneedling portion, we’ll customize the products used based on your skin’s individual needs.
How does microneedling work?
A: Microneedling delivers thousands of tiny punctures (also known as micro-injuries, micro-channels or micro-punctures) per second, which stimulates your body’s natural healing response. The body responds to these controlled wounds by producing collagen and elastin, which rejuvenates the skin and resurfaces texture.
How does Dermapen differ from other microneedling devices?
A: Dermapen is the leading microneedling device currently on the market and the gold standard of microneedling technology. Because the needles oscillate so quickly, the tip of the Dermapen easily glides across the skin without catching or causing any dermal tearing, unlike other devices on the market. Furthermore, Dermapen has products that work alongside the treatments you receive here at NuAGE that allow for optimal results with fewer sessions as compared to the competitors.
Is there any downtime after microneedling?
A: Usually, there is little to no downtime associated with this treatment. Some people will notice redness and mild swelling, similar to a slight sunburn, for 24-48 hours after a session. Pinpoint bleeding and/or bruising may occur. Results will begin to show around 30 days after the initial treatment, but final results will continue on for six to nine months after the final treatment in the series.
